OK

3/4. Summary of workshop in Haarlem and changes on 15926.org

Plant lifecycle data modeling:
The existing discussion on the Plant lifecycle data model (http://15926.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=17) is to be replaced. The Plant Lifecycle Data model that is presented her (http://www.15926.org/publications/general-discussions/plant-lifecycle-model/index.htm) gives the overall picture, but might be difficult for people to work on/with. It gives the whole and overall picture on all levels. Most people only tend to work on one level (at the time) when mapping, and this model might then be too much. The model will be replaced by a scheme similar to this: http://www.infowebml.ws/mapping-methodology/index.htm. This gives a methodology for deciding upon patterns. The methodology will be based on the one that is developed as part of the JORD project.
This methodology should, in general, guide you to the correct modelling pattern to use in 80% of the cases. In general there will always be approximately 20% of the modelling issues that cannot be described by the general rules, and these will demand for a modelling specialist, who in turn can consult a modelling guru, to solve.

Temporal Part:
The pattern selector as discussed in the previous section (Plant lifecycle data modelling) will tell you when and how to use temporal parts.

Class life cycle model:
A topic on class life cycle model is to be created on 15926.org. This should be based on the JORD document describing the 4-level architecture. When in a design face modelling is generally done on class level. As projects progress we will always see the need to “change” the classes in our model. What is actually the case is not that the class change but that it needs to be replaced by a new class. We need to be able to track the history and changes for classes.

Power set:
A topic about power set is to be created on 15926.org

Standardized symbols and diagram:
A topic about symbols and diagrams is to be created on 15926.org. This should in general spell out:

  • Symbols to use
  • Format
  • How to do diagram

Subscription to the 15926.org
It is possible to subscribe to the 15926.org forum. We recommend, at least all member of the MMT Core group, to sign up for subscription. In general you need to subscribe to each individual forum. If you would like one single subscription to cover the site as a whole you should contact Onno, and he will arrange this for you.

5. A.O.B.
Victor raised a question about template specifications. A template specification list is available from the 15926.org site. All members of the MMT SIG are authorized to do changes on these templates. We trust the members of the group to be “sober” about making changes. The site track all changes, thus it is possible to roll back there for some reason has been done mistakes.

a. Clarification in way of working

We experienced some problems with the recent votes on the 15926.org forum. The major issues were:

  • The requirement to order the voting, i.e. vote for some issues before others.
  • Some of the issues were not open for voting
  • Some models proposed were too complex for a simple yes/no vote

It was proposed to break down the models to simpler part as follows:

Property Range Issue:
The discussion is to be locked. Onno will summarize the discussion, and start different topics to cover various branches of the discussion. Magne prefer to model this in part2 and part4, and Onno showed how The Oline Tools Template definitions allow for this.

Plant Lifecycle Model:
Two main issues were discussed:

  • Modelling using Classes instead of individuals
  • Modelling of Temporal Parts to Classes

Onno will split the proposals and lock the existing issue after discussion with Mange and Hans. This is to allow the group to discuss the matter farther.

Class Model:
This existing issue will also be locked and discussion renewed with a proposal aimed at coming up with a clear method of making a clear decision preferably using a flowchart.

Template model revisited:
In order to use Class Model new Templates would be requires. Hans wanted to summarize these changes. However, new ideas have evolved which instead of pointing at templates involves pointing at specialized classes using enumerated lists of classes. This will become decouples from the Plat Lifecycle Model. Magne discussed necessity of deciding where you are in the 4-level architecture.

Onno, Hans, Ian and Magne are to meet 21/22nd of June to discuss these modelling issues further. The result of the meeting will be presented in our next meeting.

Subjects should be open for discussions at an adequate time for the core group to evaluate and comment. Preferably discussions should end with a consensus, but if that is not possible, Kari Anne will arrange for special deadlock meetings.

Kari Anne asked for feedback with regards to the core groups vacation plans. This was to avoid pulling of a vote at the middle of someone’s vacation.

4. A.O.B.

  • Due to health, Hans will not get involved in the meetings, but he will continue to play a role in giving advice.
  • Victor raised some issues of New Template for PropertyWithValueofTemporalPart - Onno undertook to respond and add history to the discussion
  • Some people have experience difficulties with the previous meeting invites. Kari Anne will delete all existing invite, and send out new invites. Future meeting-schedule (changes might occur) :
