There is currently a challenge in automatically and safely integrating the contributors to a drilling operation. Improvements will come from systems that automatically combine knowledge from several drilling contributors and intervene with the drilling control system directly. An open Drilling Control Communication Standard is a crucial part in achieving this goal that will lead to a better safeguarding of operational limits, less unproductive time and, in the end, better and more efficient well placement.[[BR]][[BR]]Robert Ewald is Senior Systems Engineer in the Global Systems Engineering Department of National Oilwell Varco and responsible for system interoperability.||

The solution will be build on top of an integration platform, allowing a standardized access to underlying data and information sources, and will allow production engineers to access and use all relevant data in a standardized way. The project will be a consumer of IOHN developed data models.[[BR]][[BR]]Bjørn Rugland is project manager for the RTV-project in Statoil.||
