Once you are successful at this, you should not have forgotten where that data came from, who had asserted it, how it had been processed, when it was valid, etc. Obviously, you do not only need the data, but you need also plenty of knowledge about your semantic Web data and even more so when you move beyond your organization's boundaries and into the global semantic Web. In this talk, I will look at some media data and survey some possibilities of how to structure and process your data such that knowing something about your semantic web data is not more difficult than necessary. Possible solutions include ontology patterns, data lineage processing and workflow provenance techniques. == Steffen Staab == Professor, University of Koblenz-Landau Steffen Staab is professor for databases and information systems at the University of Koblenz-Landau. However, linked data is only worth if... linked. But the task of linking large data sets is daunting given the size of the data and the fact that data publishers only know one side of the links. Automated support should be sought to help data providers in this task. We will identify the different problems raised by data interlinking through real world examples. We will present the type of solutions that are provided to this task as well as existing systems. Then, we will articulate the available technologies in a coherent framework for data interlinking. === Jérôme Euzenat === Jérôme Euzenat is senior research scientist at INRIA (Montbonnot, France). He has set up and leads the INRIA Exmo team dedicated to "Computer-mediated communication of structured knowledge" which is also part of the Laboratoire d'Informatique de Grenoble (Grenoble computer science lab). His all time interests are tied to the relationships holding between various representations of the same situation. Hence, his interest in connecting heterogeneous ontologies and linking data. His work on heterogeneity has been recently published as a book, Ontology matching, co-authored with Pavel Shvaiko. ---- == Linked Objects and Rules == Dr. Harold Boley, Adjunct Professor, University of New Brunswick, Canada June 8th, 16:00-16:30 === Abstract : Linked Objects and Rules === Institute for Information Technology, National Research Council;[[BR]]Faculty of Computer Science, University of New Brunswick, Canada[[BR]][[BR]]Two popular modeling and programming paradigms (e.g., on the Semantic Web) have been objects (e.g., RDF/JSON/...) and rules (e.g., RIF/RuleML/...). Objects basically have a -- possibly typed -- IDentifier (OID) described by a collection of slots, each being a pair of a key and a filler (a literal data item or the OID of another object); object descriptions can be asserted as slotted facts. Rules basically have a predicate application as a conclusion implied by a conjunction of premises, each being again a predicate application; conclusion predicate applications without premises are positional facts. Combinations of objects (frames) and rules were done -- e.g. in F-logic (Frame logic) and W3C RIF (Rule Interchange Format) -- such that some or all rule premises become object queries, and the rule conclusion is usable for (dynamic) object derivation.[[BR]][[BR]]Ontologies come into this picture as follows: First, OID types (sorts, classes) can be organized into a subClassOf taxonomy (a 'light-weight'[[BR]]ontology), e.g. employing RDF Schema. Second, objects descriptions on the schema/signature level correspond to certain description logics, the foundation of OWL (Web Ontologies Language) and OWL 2. In F-logic and RIF, frames are defined entirely separately from function and[[BR]]predicate applications. In POSL and RuleML, these fundamental notions are integrated by permitting applications with optional object identifiers and, orthogonally, arguments that are positional or slotted. The resulting positional-slotted, object-applicative (psoa) terms have recently been endowed with a new formal semantics, reducing the number of RIF terms.[[BR]][[BR]]Linking or Webizing is characteristic for modern object and rule languages on the (Semantic) Web. They employ IRIs (Internationalized Resource dentifiers) as OIDs (which can also occur as slot fillers), slot keys, type dentifiers, and document identifiers for entire object and rule bases modules). Linked objects and rules can thus be regarded as generalized inked data. Therefore, an object and rule language such as RuleML can be sed for the interchange of information ranging from linked data sets to inked Horn-logic and F-logic knowledge bases to linked first-order and igher-order logic documents. === Harold Boley === Dr. Harold Boley is adjunct professor at the Faculty of Computer Science, University of New Brunswick, and Leader of the Semantic Web Laboratory at the National Research Council Canada, Institute for Information Technology. His specification of Web rules through RuleML has found broad uptake. It has been combined with OWL to SWRL and become the main input to the W3C Recommendation RIF. His work on Rule Responder has enabled deployed distributed applications for the Social Semantic Web. ---- == Keynote == Morten Thorkildsen, Adm Dir., IBM Norge June 9th, 12:30-13:00 === Abstract === The rapid increase in the amount of readily accessible data available has exploded in recent years. In this talk, we will focus on specific challenges for GRC in the realm of cloud computing security. Several standardization initiatives are working towards the common goal of defining metadata, evaluation and auditing frameworks for cloud computing security. The efforts are building on stablished risk management and IT governance frameworks like COBIT. A common trait across all the proposed standardizations is that they need a strong semantic modelling layer for the business domains the services are addressing as well as the security functionality and criteria across a multitude of perspectives (e.g., applications, data, infrastructure, organization). Even if several scientific approaches to modelling service semantics are existing, the complexity of cloud security poses massive challenges to semantic technologies. The talk will focus on solution approaches to the following challenges – risk and control systems models and their integration with business domain models, business rules types and inference systems supporting operational compliance verification, and representations of security requirements that can be used in auditing processes. === Marcus Spies === Marcus Spies, born in 1956, studies in cognitive science, computer science and economics at Berlin Technical University. However, publishing quality linked data is [[BR]]another story. Ontologies need to be carefully selected and designed, reference datasets need to be identified and the corresponding resources linked to the new dataset. These tasks require both a considerable amount of effort, as well as the availability of reference ontologies and datasets to publish and link the data. The Datalift project propose to tackle these issues on the example of publishing French public data. Datalift aims at developing a suite of tools easing the publication process, and to provide reference ontologies and datasets that can serve as authoritative datasets on which others can link.[[BR]]We will present the current progress toward reaching this goal, in particular we will focus on Linked Open Vocabularies, a tool for [[BR]]analysing vocabulary usage on the Web of data, and on techniques allowing to automate the data linking process. We will also show our [[BR]]progress towards building a French linked-data ecosystem. === François Scharffe === François Scharffe is associate professor at the university of Montpellier, France.
