How ISO 15926 Handles Information Exchanges

ISO 15926 is a standard way of representing information that retains the meaning of each data item. When the meaning of data values are retained with the data, we no longer need the context, for instance, a complete equipment data sheet, to know the meaning of an individual item on the data sheet.

When information is exported from an application, an adapter converts it to the standard format. After that, any of the members of a project can use any of the information by using its own adapter, geared for its internal software.

Essentially, ISO 15926 has a round hole for round pegs and a square hole for square pegs.
